Dear Apartment 28102,

I moved out a week ago after living here for the past three years and I just wanted to say thank you! This apartment’s been a place that’s seen me throughout the majority of my ups and downs in college. From all the nights I’ve stayed up partying and having deep convos to the nights I’ve been up late working on an assignment I’ve procrastinated on. It’s truly such a shame that we must part ways.

I’m not going to miss all the maintenance calls for every new thing that’s broken, the loud washer and dryer, and all the bugs we had for absolutely no reason. I will always look back (somewhat fondly, idk?) and reminisce about the crazy snowstorm and how the entire house flooded 2 inches. I still remember all of us playing a very peaceful game of Catan when we heard rumbling through the wall above the kitchen sink and then subsequently watched it tear apart and slowly flood the house. There’s so much random shit we’ve had to deal with but 28102 has been a pivotal part of my college experience.

I’ve also had so many of my favorite college memories that far outweigh any of the negatives during my time there. Looking back, it’s crazy how I basically threw a small house party every weekend all throughout my sophomore year. It gave me my first taste of partying in college despite COVID shutting down everything around us. It also gave us a sense of normalcy during a time when all our college interactions were through a screen. I’ve also been reminiscing about all the times we would leave an Aggie football game at halftime (terrible Aggies ik) and then all sit together and watch the rest of the game in the living room while making food. Watching movies with my roommates while having one or two too many beers. I’ll also never forget how I basically transformed our house into a fish camp house the summer between sophomore and junior year. The long nights where we all stayed up doing nice things and all the toothbrushing parties during 3DB4. That summer, I had like five additional people living in that house and the door was always open.

Moving into that apartment in a way marked one of the first steps of growth I experienced in college. I was no longer on campus near all my classes and my dining halls. It was my first time really having to use my car to get around. It also marked the first time I had to buy groceries and cook for myself, as opposed to basically eating out all the time freshman year. Despite being in a very protected bubble, it slowly gave me a more real taste of college station.

It’s also crazy to think of how my room changed over the years. I swapped my string lights for a sheepskin rug and my ocean tapestry for some jerseys on the wall. Not necessarily an improvement, just change. I severely need someone to show me how to decorate a room. I’ve been in this room and this house through the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of college and I’m grateful for it all. 28102, it’s been quite a ride!
